- A-Z directory of local craft makers in Scotland
- Updatable member listings with maps, social networks and other fields
- "Smile" gallery of Shop Scotland's collective members
- Internal search feature
Shop Scotland has existed for some time, but in 2016 the website was in need of an overhaul. The pressing concern was that the owner could easily add/update members according to their specific details: Google maps, social networks, business description, website URL and others. From the Mull Of Galloway to Dunnet Head, Scotland’s creative talent have a place to broadcast their work.
Members are categorised by their niche – these include cards, candles, soaps, clothing, jewellery, woodworking and more. The result (not dissimilar to this site’s trades section) is a browsable directory of local talent that spans the length and breadth of the country. At the time of writing, shop-scotland.com has over 20 categories and 140 members!
What is the purpose of this? Shop Scotland is a celebration of talent that might otherwise be overshadowed by the big retailers and massive ecommerce websites. Not only do small businesses have a place to be showcased, they also become part of a collective family – just look at all those smiles!
