Butterfly Conservation Website
The SBBT approached me to provide a low-budget, easy-maintenance website for their charity. In these cases, my go-to solution is StudioPress. They have an extensive library of robust themes built on the Genesis framework. While these don’t offer the full flexibility of a bespoke site, they’re perfectly decent for smaller-scale projects such as charities and start-ups.
My role in this project was mostly to set up and support, rather than designing the site from scratch. That being said, work was needed to customise the theme and ensure that the SBBT enjoy a distinct look. A few style tweaks, patterns and theme edits were required so that the site felt like its own, rather than something that was picked off the shelf. Finally, a logo was put together based on an original watercolour by one of the owners.
Now that it is online, sbbt.org.uk is flourishing. It is in the capable hands of the charity staff, who are free to update it and post articles as they wish. Run by volunteers in Norfolk, the Swallowtail & Birdwing Butterfly Trust has a worldwide reach. I’m delighted to have played a small part in broadcasting their work.
